US-based Corning and French player SGD Pharma on Monday formally inaugurated their joint venture glass tubing manufacturing plant for pharma products at Vemula, on the outskirts of Hyderabad. The facility has been set up with an investment of around $60 million (₹530 crore).

Capacity and Production

The plant will have the capacity to manufacture 13,000 tonnes of glass tubing annually, enabling the production of 2.2 billion vials per year by the end of 2025 or early 2026, according to senior company officials.

Focus on High-Quality Materials

The new facility will produce high-quality Type 1 borosilicate glass tubing, a key material used in injectable drug packaging, direct injection delivery systems, diagnostics, and biologics. This move is expected to strengthen India’s pharma supply chain and support global demand for critical healthcare packaging solutions.
