The WHO Foundation has announced a new strategic partnership with Bayer AG to support global health programs aimed at combating neglected tropical diseases (NTDs), advancing self-care initiatives, and addressing the impact of climate change on sexual and reproductive health. The agreement will bolster WHO-led programs designed to strengthen healthcare systems and expand access to essential medical interventions worldwide.

Expanding a Longstanding Collaboration

Bayer has collaborated with WHO for over two decades through medicine donations and health system financing to fight NTDs such as Chagas disease, Human African Trypanosomiasis, and Taeniasis, conditions still affecting over one billion people globally. The new partnership, forged through the WHO Foundation, deepens this relationship and aligns with three key global priorities: disease elimination, self-care integration, and climate-resilient health systems.

Focus on Climate, Self-Care, and Research

As climate change increasingly influences disease transmission and health outcomes, the partnership will help WHO develop long-term prevention and control strategies. It will also enhance country-level capacity to integrate self-care interventions within universal health coverage, especially in low- and middle-income countries. Additionally, the collaboration supports the UN co-sponsored Human Reproduction Programme (HRP) to study how climate change impacts sexual and reproductive health, leveraging data and insights from real-world experiences.
